    Why You'll Love This Recipe:

Light and fluffy brioche buns make the best crispy, buttery croutons. The olive oil soaks into the fluffy pieces of bread and adds another layer of richness to the already delicious bread. The seasoning mixture perfectly coats the crispy bread cubes and adds just the right amount of flavor.

They add the perfect level of crunch and savoriness to anything you add them to. Next time you have leftover hamburger or hot dog buns from recipes like these elk burgers or halibut sandwiches, don't let them get moldy on your counter. Turn them into delicious homemade garlic croutons instead!

    Ingredient Notes:

    • Brioche Buns: This recipe uses brioche hamburger buns but there are a lot of options for substitutes. French bread, sourdough, white sandwich bread, stale bread, or really any type of bread can be used for this recipe. However, you might have to adjust the cooking time depending on the moisture level of the bread you choose.
    • Olive Oil: Olive oil can be replaced with other fats or oils like sunflower oil or also butter to add some extra richness.
    • Parsley: This recipe uses dried parsley but it can be substituted with many other ingredients: fresh herbs, dried herbs, Italian seasoning, your favorite seasoning, or even parmesan cheese!

    Equipment Notes:

    • Sheet Pan: You'll need a sheet pan or cookie sheet big enough for the croutons to be spread out in an even layer without crowding so each crouton gets perfectly crisp.

    Step by Step Instructions:

What to Serve with Homemade Croutons:

Croutons are the perfect addition to any type of salad but you don't have to stop there! They add great texture to soups like tomato soup, butternut squash soup, and French onion soup. You can also use them in place of breadcrumbs on top of casseroles, for stuffing, or even as a savory snack. No matter how you choose to use them, this is sure to be your go-to recipe for leftover brioche buns!

    Recipe FAQ's:

Why are my croutons not crispy?

There are a number of reasons why homemade croutons might not turn out crispy. If you bake them at too high of a temperature, they will brown before fully drying out which leads to soggy croutons. Too much oil can also cause them to be soggy. If your croutons aren't fully cool and dry when you store them, moisture from the inside of the croutons will cause all of the croutons in the container to become soggy.

    Should homemade croutons be refrigerated?

Homemade croutons will last at room temperature for up to a week. To extend their shelf life, store them in the refrigerator or freezer.

    Can I freeze homemade croutons?

Yes! Homemade croutons can be frozen for up to 3 months in an airtight container. If your croutons aren't crispy after being frozen, you can crisp them up in a 300 degrees F oven for 5-10 minutes.
